Biography & CV

Yassine Khaled
I am a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Helsinki. My practice is situated at the intersection of artistic experimentation and socio-cultural inquiry, utilizing a diverse range of media— performance, sculpture, installation, painting, and film making—to interrogate the complexities of contemporary life. Through these mediums, I explore communication and systems of cultural power shape both the individual and collective psyche in a hyperconnected, globalized world. My work arises from a sustained curiosity about the present: the ideologies, infrastructures, and invisible codes that silently inform how we think, act, and relate to one another. I approach art as a space of disruption—a way to resist cultural conformity and question the “givens” of our social reality. Central to my practice is a commitment to revisiting and unmaking dominant narratives, while proposing alternative ways of seeing and imagining the world.
As an artist based in the west I conceptualize interpersonal communication as inherently cultural, reflecting broader tensions between autonomy, identity, and control. My areas of exploration include spirituality, virtuality, environmental and identities transformation, mental health, human values, artificial intelligence, cultural homogenization, and precarious labor. These themes converge to address the core question: what defines our conditions of existence, and how can we collectively reimagine them? In this way, my artistic research aims to cultivate spaces of critical reflection and radical possibility—where speculative cultural visions are not only imagined but made tangible. I view the role of the artist as both witness and agent, capable of shaping future imaginaries through acts of aesthetic and ethical intervention.
My works have been represented internationally in galleries, art fairs, biennales and museums including: National Museum of Finland, Helsinki (2022), Museum of Central Finland (2022), Seoul International ALT Cinema Media Festival, South Korea (2021)Together Alone project screen on Musikkintalo, Helsinki (2020), Criatek, Digital Creativity & Technology Festival, Aveiro, Portugal (2019), Expanded Media -exhibition at Stuttgarter Filmwinter Festival, Stuttgart, Germany (2019), Prix Ars Electronica, OK Center for Contemporary Art, Linz, Austria (2018), SALTS Group Exhibition, Birsfelden, Switzerland (2017-2018), Chart Art Fair (2017), Copenhagen, Denmark, Haihara Art Centre, Tampere, Finland (2017), SUPERMARKET Art Fair, Stockholm (2017), Art Fair Suomi, Helsinki (2017), CMOOA - Collection’s Auction, Palace Es Saadi, Marrakech (2016), Exhibition Laboratory, Helsinki (2016-2017), 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London (2015), GVCC, Casablanca (2012-2017) and ”Luxures”, RonchauxRoom, Besançon, France (2014), Biennale OFF 4 Marrakech (2012) and Contemporary Art Fair of Africa and the Mediterranean, Casablanca (2011).
